SPEAKER Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III on Friday welcomed the confirmed detention of Zaldy Co in Prague, calling it a significant step toward accountability and justice for the Filipino people.
The Speaker issued the statement after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. confirmed the apprehension of Co on his official Facebook page.
“Nahuli na si Zaldy Co. He is now detained in Prague after crossing into the Czech Republic without proper documentation and is currently in the custody of Czech authorities,” the President said in his post.
According to Speaker Dy, “the arrest of Mr. Zaldy Co is an important step forward for justice and the rule of law. It sends a clear message that those who attempt to evade the law will be held to account.”
Dy noted that the President’s statement reflects the administration’s commitment to pursue justice in the wake of allegations of corruption in the implementation of government flood control projects.
“Malinaw na mula pa sa kanyang SONA, sinabi na ng Pangulo na walang puwang ang katiwalian sa kanyang pamumuno. That accountability must apply to everyone, especially those entrusted with public funds,” said Dy.
Dy emphasized that while efforts to ensure accountability are underway, the House will continue to focus on urgent national concerns, particularly the impact of the ongoing Middle East crisis on the country’s economy.
“Habang tinutugunan natin ang usaping ito, tuloy ang trabaho ng Kapulungan sa mga pangangailangan ng ating bayan, lalo na sa epekto ng krisis sa Middle East. We remain focused on measures that will help protect our economy, support our people, and deliver concrete relief where it is needed most.”
