A SUSPECTED terror ring member was arrested and some improvised explosive devices were seized in a joint operation by the police and military in Jolo, Sulu.
Nabbed was Nursitta Mahalli Malud.
Philippine National Police chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said the suspect is being investigated for his purported links with the New People’s Army.
Combined PNP and Armed Forces agents arrested Malud in a raid at the suspect’s house in Bgy. Tulay in the Walled City of Jolo.
Seized during the operation were one 81mm ammunition, a nine-inch long detonating cord, one blasting cap, one plastic container with arming switch, a nine-volt battery with snap connector, a 15-inch long stranded wire looped to a switch and one blasting cap.
Members of the PNP Special Action Force’s 72nd and 74th Special Action Company, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the Jolo Municipal Police Station and the Army’s 35th Infantry Battalion conducted the raid on the strength of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 9516 or illegal possession of explosives issued by a local court.
“Malud’s arrest is a significant development in the PNP’s anti-criminality operations and manhunt against wanted persons, especially known supporters of terrorist groups,” the PNP chief said.
The suspect is being held at the Jolo police jail and is facing a non-bailable case for illegal possession of explosives.
