THE Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) is pleased to announce the commencement of a significant voyage study aimed at enhancing the country’s capabilities in preventing, if not deterring, human trafficking and migrant smuggling by sea, under the program named “DOJ-IACAT Voyage Study to Strengthen Backdoor Exits against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants by Sea,” held at Ben Go Wharf, Baliwasan Sea Side, Zamboanga City, January 21, 2024.
This groundbreaking research endeavor is poised to revolutionize the combat against these illicit activities that are plaguing our nation. As part of the government’s efforts to combat trafficking in person and smuggling of migrants by sea, the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking chaired by the Department of Justice (DOJ), is launching a collaborative study to strengthen the backdoor exits in terms of trafficking in person. A Technical Working Group (TWG) composed of esteemed experts from the different branches of the government will conduct a survey on the different backdoor exits in Zambasulta Region and Palawan.
