TRAGEDY befell a couple after a Canadian national stabbed his wife before killing himself in their home in Bacolod City last Friday.
Victim Liezel Demerin-St. Jean, 47, a call center agent succumbed to multiple stab wounds.
The suspect was her own husband, Ronald St. Jean, 65, a Canadian national.
The tragic incident happened in the couple’s home at Villa Mikaela Subdivision in Bgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City past 6 a.m. on Friday.
An investigation showed Liezel had just gone home from work when neighbors heard the couple arguing.
They even heard the wife allegedly threatening to have the Canadian deported to Canada, which further infuriated the suspect.
The heated argument then turned into cries for help after the Canadian allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed Liezel multiple times in the chest and neck.
The couple’s two children, aged seven and 11, managed to escape from the house.
Liezel’s cousin, who was also inside the house, called for help from barangay officials and the police.
Village watchmen and personnel from the Bacolod City Police Station 8 responded.
Seeing the approaching policemen, St. Jean went to the bedroom and slit his wrist.
Authorities tried to negotiate but instead of yielding, the Canadian spattered them with pepper spray.
The suspect stabbed himself in the chest.
Police rushed the couple to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where Liezel was declared dead on arrival while St. Jean died later.
