AGENTS of the Philippine National Police-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group on Wednesday arrested a police traffic investigator in an entrapment operation in Cebu City.
PNP-IMEG director Brig. Gen. Warren F. de Leon said arrested was Staff Sgt. Paul Dennis Traya, 40, assigned at the Mambaling Police Station 11 .
Traya, who was arrested at the parking lot of Miller Hospital in Tres de Abril St., San Nicolas, Cebu City at 3:20 p.m. last Wednesday, is facing criminal and administrative charges for robbery-extortion.
Members of the IMEG Visayas Field Unit, with the help of officers from the Police Regional Office 7 Regional Intelligence Division, the Cebu Police Provincial Office and the Cebu City Police Office, launched the sting.
According to complainant Walter Despi, the accused cop flagged him down on Atillos St., Bgy. Mambaling and told him his motorcycle will be impounded.
An investigation showed that the policeman, who was eventually identified as SSgt. Traya, and some local “force multipliers” were manning a checkpoint in the area when they flagged down the complainant for a still unknown violation.
Despi said the accused cop initially demanded P10,000 from him but later reduced the amount to P3,000, prompting him to file a complaint before the PNP-IMEG.
