A TEACHER and a driver were arrested on Monday for robbery-extortion and swindling in an operation in Bgy. Bagong Nayon, Baliwag City, Bulacan.
Nabbed were Melanie Pastrana, 49, of Malipampang, San Ildefonso; and Christopher Verdillo, 46, a driver, of Malamig, Bustos, both in Bulacan.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Cesar Pasiwen by Bulacan police director Col. Relly Arnedo, the entrapment was conducted in a fastfood restaurant in Baliwag City.
According to Arnedo, the suspects were arrested while receiving the marked money from the victim.
The complainant said based on the initial transaction on July 8, 2022, a sum of P503,000 was received by the suspects as payment to facilitate and expedite the transaction for the transfer of land title acquired by the victim.
The victim said the suspects failed to complete the transfer because the documents they provided from the Bureau of Internal Revenue were allegedly fabricated.
The suspects demanded an additional P500,000 in exchange for the immediate transfer of land title, prompting the victim to seek police’ help.
Members of the Bulacan PNP launched an entrapment, which led to the arrest of the two suspects.
Charges for swindling/estafa, robbery extortion and falsification of public documents were filed against the arrested teacher and the driver
Pasiwen said the Bulacan police continues all its efforts to bring before the bars of justice unscrupulous individuals who take advantage of innocent and vulnerable civilians.
