
First prize winner – Brgy Sioasio West received ₱10,000 in cash for winning the Paskuhan sa Brgy.: Search for the Pinakabonggang Alternative sa Paputok” contest held in Sual, Pangasinan on December 20, 2023.
THE Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region in cooperation with the local government unit (LGU) of Sual successfully conducted the “Paskuhan sa Barangay: Search for the Pinakabonggang Alternative sa Paputok Merry Making Contest” to promote the use of use of alternate ways to greet the new year, instead of lighting firecrackers which causes injuries, especially among children.
“Maraming maaring gawin upang maging ligtas at malayo sa disgrasya sa pagsalubong ng Bagong Taon. Maaring magpatugtog ng malakas, gumamit ng torotot, at gumamit ng mga lumang batya na gawa sa lata at ito ay gawing tambol upang makalikha ng ingay,” Local Health Support Division Chief Jimuel S. Cardenas stated in his message during the awarding ceremony held at the Sual Sports Complex in Pangasinan.
“Kaya huwag ng bumili pa ng mga paputok at itabi na lamang ang pera at gamitin sa mas kapakipakinabang na paraan. At maliban sa “Iwas Paputok”, huwag din nating kalimutan and “Healthy Handaan” – kumain ng tama, at well-balanced diet, iwasan ang pag-inom ng alak at pagkain ng mga sobrang mamantik at matatamis upang hindi magkaroon ng diabetes at hypertension.”
“Kung kayo naman ay dadalo sa mga iba[t-ibang pagsasalo, huwag kalilimutang magsuot ng facemask upang makaiwas sa anumang sakit,” he added.
Cardenas also thanked the LGU of Sual for their support and participation for spearheading the contest.
A total of seven barangays participated in the competition. First prize winner – Brgy Sioasio West received ₱10,000 in cash, two entries from Brgy. Macaycayawan won the second and third prize and received ₱8,000 and ₱5,000, respectively.
Consolation prize winners also received a ₱3,000 cash.
The “Paskuhan sa Barangay – Search for Pinakabonggang Alernative sa Paputok” is part of the Community Health Promotion Playbook for December to make healthy behaviors the easier choice by everyone, every time, everywhere for healthy people, and healthy communities for ‘Healthy Pilipinas’.
