The Department of Health – Ilocos Region awarded green stars to 12 health facilities in Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte, considered as regional awardees and have been certified as green, safe and climate-resilient hospitals during the awarding ceremony held last June 16, 2023.
The recognition given was based on the validation of the submitted Green Viability Assessment (GVA) Tool conducted by the Department of Health – Health Facility Development Bureau (HFDB) and the Regional Health Facility Development Unit (HFDU) last May 17 to June 1, 2023.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco extended her gratitude to the hospitals that participated in the activity. “Napakaimportante po sa amin ang inyong naging participation because it displayed your commitment and initiative towards making your hospitals energy-efficient and climate change resilient kasama na dito ang pag-pursue at pag-raise ng standards to ensure that your facilities are aligned with the existing national policies”
“The provision of health needs is a whole of government and a whole of society approach and ensuring the highest possible level of health and well-being of patients and health workers in health facilities involves everyone’s mutual cooperation,” she stated during the first green, safe and climate-resilient hospitals awarding held in Ilocos Sur.
A total of eleven (11) hospitals, and one (1) Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center out of the 14 health facilities evaluated, passed the GVA tool. Eight (8) were public hospitals, three (3) were from the private sector, and one (1) is a drug treatment and rehabilitation center.
An electrocardiogram machine was given to each of the awardees.
Assistant Regional Director Rodolfo Antonio M. Albornoz assured that the regional office will support the awardees as they will automatically join the national awarding on November 2023.
“Let us continue this meaningful collaborative partnership in making our health facilities green, safe, and climate-smart hospitals that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, achieve risk reduction, and are cost-efficient,” he stressed.
Health facilities that received the three-star awards were Ilocos Sur District Hospital -Narvacan with an average score of 77.03%; Ilocos Sur District Hospital – Tagudin with 81.56%; Ilocos Sur Medical Center with 81.56%; Candon City General Hospital – 77.05%; Bayambang District Hospital – 77.08%; Pangasinan Provincial Hospital – 76.15%; Lingayen District Hospital – 76.03%; Ilocos Sur District Hospital -Bessang Pass Cervantes – 76.01%; and Laoag City General Hospital 81.40%.
Four-star awardees were Laoag City General Hospital with 81.40% average score, Metro Vigan Hospital with 94.17% and Dagupan Drug and Rehabilitation Center – 94.60%.
The Black Nazarene Hospital Inc. obtained the highest average score with 98.41% and was the only recipient of the five-star award.
Regional HFDU Head Cheryl D. Buhong said that the regional office provided capacity-building activities to all the awardees, including other hospitals in ensuring their health facilities green, safe, and climate-resilient.
