THE Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMHMC) in Batac City, Ilocos Norte was this year’s awardee for the “Top Performing Sentinel Site” in the country bestowed by the DOH – Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (ITRMC) during an awarding ceremony held in Paranaque City, Metro Manila on May 21, 2024.
The award was given in recognition for their exemplary performance and commitment in implementing the antimicrobial resistance surveillance program. MMHMC has been identified as a sentinel site in Ilocos region for Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Program (ARSP).
As a sentinel site, they gather and timely processed laboratory data which are vital to the utilization of clinical practice guidelines and relevant policies towards the treatment, prevention, and control of resistant infection.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco lauded MMHMC’s dedication and efforts for being at the forefront of combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) over the years.
“We have been a committed partner in promoting antimicrobial awareness and has been aligning our efforts to harmonize our programs with the global objectives conveyed in the Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance by the Worl Health Assembly in 2015,” Sydiongco stated.
AMR is a growing public concern and is putting the health care system at risk as it threatens the capability to treat common infections and to perform life-saving procedures and other surgeries.
MMMHMC also grabbed the Top 1 spot in the 2023 DOH Centers for Health Development (CHDs) and Hospitals Performance Report together with the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC).
Among the other hospitals who received awards in Ilocos region were Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC), Conrado F. Estrella Regional Medical and Trauma Center (CFEMTC), and Ilocos Sur Medical Center (ISMC) ranked 8th, 10th, and 27th, respectively.
For the drug abuse and treatment rehabilitation centers (DATRC), Dagupan and La Union received the 6th and 7th place, respectively.
Director Sydiongco extended her congratulations to the medical center chiefs, healthcare personnel of the DOH facilities who were awarded. “Let us continue to improve our services for our patients and work towards the realization of Universal Health Care for every Filipino, dahil sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Buhay ay Mahalaga”!, she emphasized.
