
THE Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region in partnership with the Locl Government of Bacnotan, La Union successfully conducted the Buntis Congress 2025 on April 30, 2025.
This activity is in line with the health department’s objective of promoting maternal health and provide essential educational and medical services to pregnant women.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said that conducting a “Buntis Congress“ is essential for promoting maternal and child health. “Napakahalaga na mabigyan ang mga pregnant women ng sapat na kaalaman at mga healthcare services na kanilang kailangan gaya ng OB consultation at Tetanus Diphtheria Vaccine upang mapangalagaan ang knailang kalusugan.”
“Mahalaga rin na ma-involved ang kanilang mga partners upang sila ay mabigyan ng tamang suporta at maunawaan ang kanilang pinagdadaanan sa kanilang pagbubuntis,” Sydiongco emphasized.
Of the total of 65 pregnant women who attended, 15 were teenagers.
Participants were given lectures on nutrition during pregnancy, family planning, teenage pregnancy and adolescent health.
Health services including prenatal check-up and provision of vitamins and vaccines were administered. Routine Immunization to 0-12 months old children were also conducted during the event.
Sydiongco advised courage pregnant women to complete the 8 scheduled visit to their rural health units for their regular antenatal check-ups. “It is likewise important to seek the help of your barangay health workers if hospital access is limited especially those who reside in GIDAs,” she concluded.
