Tagudin, Ilocos Sur – THE Department of Health – Ilocos Region, in partnership with the Municipal Health Office of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, launched the 2025 Adolescent Health Olympics, a two-day youth-centered event highlighting the importance of health, wellness, and active lifestyles among adolescents.
Selected senior high school student leaders from Tagudin National High School gathered to showcase their talents in sports, creative competitions, and knowledge-based challenges—all anchored in promoting adolescent health and development.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco emphasized the vital role of empowering the youth to make informed and responsible health decisions.
“The Adolescent Health Olympics is not just about games—it is about preparing our young people to lead healthier, more productive lives. By combining sports, education, and advocacy, we strengthen their physical, mental, and emotional well-being,” she stated.
Sydiongco also expressed gratitude to the educators, parents, health workers, and local leaders who supported the event, underscoring the principle that “when we nurture our youth today, we secure the health of tomorrow’s Ilocos Region.”
During the two-day event, participants were provided topics on nutrition, HIV prevention, and substance abuse during the first day, including seminars on road safety, basic life support lectures and demo were likewise conducted in partnership with the Tagudin Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Various games and recreational activities for all the participants were held during the second day.
Regional Coordinator Dr. Mark Mina said that the Adolescent Health Olympics with the theme: “Empowering Youth Towards Healthier Tagudin: Reproductive Health, Nutrition, Substance Abuse, Road Safety and First Aid Awareness” forms part of DOH’s continuing advocacy to “Invest in Adolescent Health for a Stronger Future”, ensuring that the region’s young people are equipped with the knowledge and values to live healthy, empowered, and responsible lives”.
