
A total of 445 residents of Mayombo District in Dagupan City were the recipients of the first “PuroKalusugan Program” rollout conducted in the province of Pangasinan on July 31, 2024.
DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region conducted its first “PuroKalusugan Program” today in Dagupan City, Pangasinan to bring healthcare services directly to residents in the communities.
The program was launched at the East Central Elementary School in Mayombo District on July 31, 2024 and catered to 445 residents of four Puroks namely Highlander, Insider, Babasit, and Kamanggan.
“This is the closest we can bring our government’s healthcare services, directly to the people of the community. And this is one of our government’s thrusts na ang bawat Pilipino ay ramdam ang kalusugan at makapagbigay ng ligtas, dekalidad, at mapagkalingang serbisyo sa lahat,” Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco stated.
“We are conducting the PuroKalusugan also to celebrate nutrition month and to ensure the health and nutrition of residents in the community. Bigyang halaga po natin ang tama at wastong pagkain at ang pagkakaroon ng balanseng nutrisyon upang maging malakas ang ating pangangatawan.”
Sydiongco added that the PuroKalusugan program not only brings healthcare services to the community but also teaches residents to be physically active through regular exercises, avoiding drugs and alcohol, getting enough rest and practicing healthy lifestyle.
The PuroKalusugan programs provided nutrition services, immunization, oral health, family planning; screening services for TB, HIV, PhilPen, cervical and breast cancer. Residents including barangay health workers were also given Information, Education and Communication (IEC) in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Various maintenance medicines were also distributed during the activity.
The regional office also provided 100 sacks of fortified rice for pregnant women and 10 hearing aids to selected children with hearing impairment.
The activity was conducted in collaboration with the local government of Dagupan City, the City Health Office, Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC), the Provincial DOH Office, Mayombo District Barangay officials and other partner stakeholders.
The launching of the “PuroKalusugan Program” was also attended by Dagupan City Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, Vice Mayor Bryan K, Kua, Board Member and SP on Health Chairperson Shiela Marie F. Banigued, and Mayombo District Brgy Captain, Arsenio Curameng.
