THE Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region led the blessing and inauguration of the third Super Health Center (SHC) on March 17, 2025 in the province of Pangasinan located in the town of Alcala to provide the health care needs of residents closer to their homes.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said there will be more SHCs to be opened in Pangasinan that will provide timely and accessible primary care to Pangasinenses,
“Pangasinan has the biggest population in all the provinces in region 1 and most of these residents are remotely located in communities that are far from hospitals.
“At itong mga SHCs natin ang syang magsisilbing first responders sa mga nangangailangan ng serbisyong kalusugan at sila rin ang magbibigay ng kinakailangang referral sa mga pasyenteng may mas mataas na pangangailangang medikal upang hindi na mahiran pang mag asikaso ang kanilang pamilya, especially during times of emergency,” Sydiongco stated.
“We are also providing equipment to SHCs including Barangay Health Station (BHS) packages which includes a variety of medical tools to compliment the health services they provide in the facility.”
The Alcala SHC was funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2023 and was constructed through the DOH – Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP) with an allocation of P10 million pesos. Another P2 million pesos was earmarked for equipment of the facility.
Sydiongco also mentioned that aside from the super health centers, BUCAS or the Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Services centers will also be established in the province to provide more health care services.
