IN a significant move to support women-led businesses and promote sustainable livelihoods, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) CALABARZON, through DOST Laguna, and the Adhika Group of Calamba Inc. (Sitio Paikit), formalized their collaboration with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on March 3, 2025. The ceremony was held at Adhika’s headquarters in Sitio Paikit, Brgy. Canlubang, Calamba City, Laguna, and was attended by key representatives from both organizations.
DOST Laguna was represented by Provincial Director, Ms. Agnes G. Morales, while the Adhika Group was represented by Ms. Mary Jane N. Santiago, President, and Ms. Marilyn Sta. Monica, Treasurer. The partnership aims to provide vital technical and equipment support to Adhika Group, specifically for their mushroom processing and production business.
In alignment with DOST’s commitment to advancing local industries and fostering entrepreneurship, the agency will provide key equipment, including a bagging machine, a substrate mixer, and a pasteurizing machine. These tools are expected to enhance Adhika’s mushroom production capabilities, enabling them to increase output, improve efficiency, and ensure the quality of their products.
This collaboration is particularly meaningful as it falls during the celebration of Women’s Month in March, a time to recognize the contributions of women in various sectors. Adhika Group, which is composed mainly of women entrepreneurs from Sitio Paikit, stands as an example of how women in rural communities are taking the lead in driving sustainable business ventures.
Ms. Morales highlighted the significance of this partnership, noting, “Women are key players in local economic development. Through DOST’s technical assistance and the provision of specialized equipment, we aim to empower the women of Adhika Group to expand their business and create more opportunities for their community”.
By providing the necessary equipment and training, DOST is equipping the women entrepreneurs of Adhika Group with the tools they need to succeed. The collaboration reinforces the government’s ongoing efforts to support women-led businesses and foster innovation and inclusive growth, particularly in rural areas.
As we celebrate Women’s Month, this partnership is a powerful reminder of the transformative role that women can play in shaping the future of local economies.
Through science, technology, and innovation, DOST and Adhika Group are taking meaningful steps toward creating a more inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous future for all.
