The Gawad Tambuli Award was initiated in the year 2000 and was conceived by the former Regional Director, Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal, who served as the Supervising Science Research Specialist at the time. This prestigious award derives its name from the Tambuli, a musical instrument crafted from carabao horn, known for producing noble reverberations, particularly when skillfully played. In bygone eras, the Tambuli played a pivotal role in celebratory events, post-war victories, and notably, in disseminating uplifting news.
