A 65-YEAR-OLD man on Saturday drowned while swimming in a man-made lake in Guimba Nueva Ecija.
The lifeless body of Armenio Nicolas was recovered at the deep portion of the lake at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Police said the man-made lake serves as an impounding area for irrigation water.
Prior to the drowning incident, the victim was drinking liquor with his friends when they decided to take a dip in the lake to freshen up.
Witnesses James Ballad and Julius De Leon, both of Bgy. Ayos Lomboy, told police they saw the victim and his companion Rogelio Casasiempre swam towards the middle part of the lake.
The victim dove into the deep portion of the water and failed to resurface until he was found dead.
