THE House of Representatives (HRep), through the Legislative Information Resources Management Department (LIRMD) headed by Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Dr. Edgardo Pangilinan, on Monday held the “LakBaybayin: Palihan at Tunggalian” workshop.
DSG Pangilinan said that, as employees of the institution representing the Filipino people, the HRep workforce should be expressing pride and value for Baybayin. “Naniniwala kami na tungkulin ng lahat ng Pilipino ang pagpapayaman sa ating kultura, kasama na ang ating sariling sistema ng panulat: ang Baybayin. Ang gawain nating ngayong araw ay isang konkretong hakbang upang maipakita natin dito sa Kongreso ang ating pagiging makabayan,” he said.
DSG Pangilinan also hoped that participants would join the HRep spread the knowledge and appreciation for Baybayin, the country’s own system of writing, highlighting that among the core values of HRep is patriotism.
LIRMD Executive Director Divina Sawit-Medina thanked the HRep staff who took part in the interactive and fun-filled workshop this morning. The workshop was facilitated by Baybayin Buhayin, Inc. Founding Chairman Rev. Jose Jaime Enage, who advocated to incorporate Baybayin in the measures filed by lawmakers, as well as on signages inside the HRep premises.
Following the workshop, the LIRMD organized the Baybayin race, during which participants applied what they learned on reading and writing in Baybayin.
