HRep firms up gender and dev’t plans

TO ensure that the House of Representatives (HRep), under the leadership of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, is able to actualize its gender equality goals in compliance with relevant laws, members of the HRep Gender and Development (GAD) Technical Working Group (TWG) underwent a three-day GAD Plan and Budget Writeshop from Jan. 16 to 18.

HRep Knowledge Management Systems Bureau (KMSB) Executive Director (ED) Atty. Roentgen Bronce emphasized that the writeshop is crucial in ensuring that project proposals adhere to GAD standards.

“(The writeshop) is important because we want our proposal-making to be evidence-based. When we make suggestions to the leadership na ano ‘yong programs and projects natin, dapat may basehan tayo sa mga ginagawa natin,” he said.

Legislative Information Resources Management Department (LIRMD) Executive Director Atty. Apryll Jin Therese Dumas added that the writeshop also demonstrates the dedication and commitment of the HRep secretariat to achieving goals of being a more gender-responsive organization.

Gender and Health Consultant and Writeshop facilitator Mr. Raymond Jay Mazo said the HRep is on its way to become a gender-responsive organization after these capability-building efforts, with the end-goal of becoming a GADtimpala awardee. GADtimpala is a recognition that the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) confers to organizations that demonstrate a commitment to promoting gender equality.

Writeshop participants were trained to write GAD plans, projects, and program documents using the  PCW templates. These were applied in the following: 1) Human Resource and Development Program; 2) Health and Dental Programs; 3) Infrastructure Program; 4) Security Services involving support from the janitorial service; 5) Digitalization; and 6) Legislative Development Program
