AS part of the assistance it provides to its principals, the House of Representatives (HRep) on Monday welcomed 41 new and returning House Members with an executive course on legislation to equip them with the necessary tools for the upcoming 20th Congress.
HRep Secretary General Reginald S. Velasco stressed the importance for incoming legislators to be prepared, given the people’s great expectations for officials elected to both Houses of Congress and how this environment should be prudently navigated to realize development.
“While the road ahead is very demanding, it is also full of the promise of progress and greater purpose. Let the nation observe the emergence of a new generation of leaders who will help in shaping a more promising and fulfilling future for everybody,” Velasco said.
University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) Chancellor Atty. Edgardo Carlo Vistan II, described the event as a shared commitment to cultivate leaders who are “capable, ethical, and possess visionary leadership in lawmaking”— leaders who can steward the country’s future for a better tomorrow.
“We hope to contribute to the work of a Congress that is not only responsive to recent needs, but one that is also future-driven. […] Let me end by reaffirming that UP Diliman stands with you, committed to dialogue, to scholarship in service of the people, and to building a republic where governance is informed, inclusive, and transformative,” he added.
The Secretary General expressed gratitude to UPD, particularly the Center for Policy and Executive Development of the National College for Public Administration and Governance, for its continued partnership with HRep since the 16th Congress and its dedication for its assistance in organizing the executive course.
He also recognized the hardworking and dedicated officials and personnel of HRep for their commitment to delivering improved public service and their “indispensable assistance with administrative requirements and the discharge of legislative functions and duties” for the legislators.
The first batch of the executive course will attend the learning process from June 23 to 25, while the second batch will have their turn on July 7 to 9.
