VARIOUS local government units (LGUs) in Ilocos Region joined the nationwide launching of the “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito” Anti-Dengue Drive Campaign to rally communities and government offices in a collective effort to prevent the spread of dengue and protect public health.
The campaign encouraged LGUs and all government agencies to prevent the spread of dengue and other diseases in the community through intensified search and destroy activities of possible mosquito breeding sites starting at 4 p.m.
Provincial Department of Health (DOH) offices in various provinces rendered support to LGUs who joined the nationwide launching activity.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said that the regional office already turned over anti-dengue supplies to LGUs last July 2024, including misting machines, backpack sprayers, insecticides, and Olyset nets.
“This is to strengthen and to complement the anti-dengue control measures being done in their respective communities, especially those who have recorded an increase in dengue cases.”

According to the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU), there were 884 dengue cases reported from January 1- February 15, 2025 which is 100 % higher than the number of cases reported in the same period in 2024 (441 cases).
The province with the highest number of dengue cases is Pangasinan with 447 followed by La Union with 176, Ilocos Sur – 134 and Ilocos Norte with 71. Dagupan City has 56 cases.
Sydiongco disclosed that LGUs have already implemented vector control measures such as regular weekly clean-up drives in public spaces in their respective areas of responsibility.
Various misting operations were also conducted to lessen the risk of dengue transmission.
