THE Department of Health (DOH) gave recognition to local government units (LGUs) in Ilocos region for their strong commitment to strengthening local health systems and promoting healthier communities through sustainable and people-centered health programs held last April 2026.
The LGUs were assessed and validated under the DOH Healthy Communities Framework based on their effectiveness in creating health-promoting environments and implementing community-driven initiatives aligned with national standards and indicators on health promotion and disease prevention.
This year, the provinces of Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan earned a Satisfactory rating, while Dagupan City and Ilocos Norte achieved a Good rating, reflecting a higher level of performance in delivering sustainable and responsive health programs for their communities.
Notably, Ilocos Norte became the first province in the Ilocos Region to attain a Good rating under the Healthy Communities Framework, marking a milestone achievement in regional health promotion efforts. Meanwhile, Pangasinan maintained its Satisfactory rating for the second consecutive assessment, demonstrating consistency and sustained commitment to advancing community health initiatives.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco lauded the awardees for their continued dedication to health promotion and community development.
“We commend our local government units for their unwavering commitment to building healthier, safer, and more resilient communities. These recognitions reflect the collective efforts of our LGUs, healthcare workers, partner agencies, and communities in advancing preventive and promotive healthcare. We hope this inspires more local governments to further strengthen programs that prioritize the health and well-being of the people,” Sydiongco said.
The Healthy Communities Framework is conducted to encourage LGUs to strengthen preventive and promotive healthcare strategies, improve environmental and public health conditions, and empower communities to adopt healthier lifestyles. The initiative also supports the realization of Universal Health Care by ensuring that health promotion becomes an integral part of governance and community development.
DOH officials emphasized that healthy communities play a crucial role in preventing diseases, reducing healthcare burdens, improving quality of life, and building resilience against public health emergencies.
The DOH Ilocos CHD reaffirmed its commitment to continuously support LGUs in implementing innovative and sustainable health promotion programs that contribute to stronger communities and better health outcomes across the region.
