THE Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas (LTO-6) has issued a show-cause order against an online vlogger who performed a reckless “Superman” stunt on a public highway—without even possessing a valid driver’s license.
The vlogger, identified as Jimmy Lagunday Catarata of Barangay San Isidro, Ibajay, Aklan, was filmed lying face-down atop his moving motorcycle while wearing only underwear and a sleeveless shirt, biting the hem of his shorts. The video, which quickly circulated online, drew criticism and prompted swift action from LTO-6 officials.
LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II noted the incident occurred along the national road in Aklan province constituted a clear case of reckless driving under Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136.
“Operating a vehicle in such a manner, without caution or regard for safety, is a violation of the law,” Director Geduspan stated.
LTO-6 Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the public danger posed by such behavior.
A background check through the LTO’s information system revealed that Catarata has never held a valid driver’s license. Under Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01, he faces a ₱3,000 fine for operating a motor vehicle without a license, along with the possibility of permanent disqualification from obtaining one in the future.
The show-cause order, served personally by staff from the LTO Kalibo District Office, gives Catarata five days from receipt to explain why he should not be permanently disqualified. Failure to respond will be considered a waiver of his right to contest the charges, and a decision will be rendered based on existing evidence.
“What he did was extremely dangerous,” said Engr. Marlon Velez, Chief of the LTO Kalibo District Office. “As a content creator, he should be setting a good example. Instead, he showcased a blatant disregard for road safety. We also reminded him that online content can be used as admissible evidence for violations.”
Catarata has reportedly admitted that the stunt was intended to gain views and generate income. However, LTO Region 6 has reiterated that driving without a license and engaging in reckless behavior are serious offenses that may lead to arrest, detention, and possible criminal charges.
This enforcement action aligns with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to maintain road safety nationwide. In response, the LTO—under the leadership of LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II and Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon —continues to intensify its crackdown on unsafe driving practices.
