A MAN armed with a gun who took a 65-year-old senior citizen hostage on Monday was shot dead in an encounter with the police in Bacoor City, Cavite.
Bacoor City police chief Lt. Col. Ruther Saquilayan identified the suspect as Danilo Gonzales.
Prior to the death of Gonzales, members of Sector 3 Charlie 2 Mobile Patrol unit of the Bacoor PNP were conducting routine patrol along the main road of Camella Springville in Bgy. Molino 3 when they saw the suspect armed with a gun.
Officers tried to arrest the suspect but instead of yielding, Gonzales ran away towards the nearby Nazareth Compound and held Danilo Obenia Agravante hostage.
Members of the SWAT team tried to convince the suspect to surrender but instead of surrendering, he pointed his gun to the police, prompting SWAT members to shoot him.
Gonzales died on the spot.
The elderly man was safely rescued and given first aid by personnel of the responding ambulance from the Bacoor Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (BDRRMO).
Seized from the slain suspect was a U.S. Army M1911 cal. .45 gun loaded with four live ammunition.
