A MURDER suspect, identified as an alleged accomplice in the killing of broadcaster Percy Lapid, took his own life during his arrest in Barangay Lumbang, Lipa City, Batangas.
Based on the report, joint operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office Special Operations Group, Regional Special Operations Group 4A, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 4A, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, PNP Special Action Force and Lipa Component City Police Station, in collaboration with the members of NICA 4A and Regional Intelligence Division 4A and Regional Special Operations Group-Regional Intelligence Division, NCRPO conducted the implementation of Warrant of Arrest against the suspect who was identified as alias “Orly”.
During the implementation of the arrest warrant, the suspect resisted and fired at the officers; however, Operatives of PRO 4A prioritized preserving lives and engaged in continuous negotiations with the assistance of the Barangay Chairman of Barangay Lumbang and the suspect’s relatives, leading to the release of the suspect’s wife and son, who were trapped inside their rented room. Despite their efforts to persuade him to surrender, the suspect ultimately took his own life with his firearm.
The suspect was immediately brought by the rescue personnel from Lipa Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office to Ospital ng Lipa for immediate medical attention but was declared dead on arrival at about 7:33 AM by the attending physician Dra. Michelle Joy L. Columbres.
PRO CALABARZON Regional Director ordered a thorough investigation into the death of the said suspect during the police operation conducted by joint operatives. He also commended the operatives for the rescue of the suspect’s family, who were caught in the crossfire between the suspect and the police.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa ating mga operatiba sa kanilang masigasig na kampanya laban sa mga wanted person. Ang tagumpay natin laban sa mga nagtatago sa kamay ng batas ay hindi maisasakatuparan kung wala ang suporta ng ating mga mamamayan sa komunidad at sa lokal na pamahalaan ng bawat bayan sa ating rehiyon. Sa ating mga kababayan, ang kampanya laban sa mga wanted person ay lalo nating paiigtingin upang mapanagot ang mga nagtatago sa kamay ng batas at mabigyan ng hustisya ang mga naging biktima.” the Regional Director said.
