THE Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is prepared for the rush of passengers during the holiday season, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said Tuesday.
“Ready na ready [ang transportation] lalo na ang airport para sa Christmas Season,” Secretary Bautista said on the sidelines of Converge’s launching of free WiFi at the NAIA Terminal 3.
Secretary Bautista said the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) preparation for Undas and Barangay Elections will be the barometer for the upcoming Christmas Season, wherein the agency expects at least 138,000 passengers to troop the airport daily.
“Noong Undas, elections na yan we really prepared for a bigger number of passengers. Ngayon nasa 130,000 passengers tayo per day—increase ng another 8,000 [passengers] dito sa NAIA,” Secretary Bautista said
“Marami na yung 140,000 passengers per day,” he added.
The transport chief pointed out that the main gateway’s on-time performance (OTP) was an efficient 84% during Undas with the same or even higher efficiency rating expected to be delivered for the holidays.
Secretary Bautista likewise advised passengers to avoid last minute booking of flights and arrive at least three hours before departure.
“‘Yung ba-biyahe sa holiday, see to it na nakapag-book na kayo ng flights. Mahirap ‘yung last-minute booking. Kapag doon sa araw ng biyahe n’yo, siguraduhin natin na, dapat mas maaga tayo ng isang oras doon sa normal na biyahe natin. Kung dati kailangan 2hrs before flight, ngayon, gawin nating 3 hours,” he said.
