THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region XIII (PDEA RO XIII) and its partner agencies conducted a buy-bust operation that yielded 16 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, valued at approximately Php108 million. This operation marks as one of the largest volume of methamphetamine seized in the history of Caraga region.
The successful operation, conducted at 6:40 AM in Purok 1, Barangay Sta. Irene, Bayugan City, was the result of a coordinated effort led by PDEA RO XIII’s Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur Provincial Offices. The Bayugan City Police Station and the Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Intelligence Unit (ADSPPO – PIU) also played critical roles in the operation.
Authorities recovered a total of 16 self-sealing plastic bags of methamphetamine, cleverly concealed within packaging from local courier services. Of the confiscated items, two kilograms were buy-bust items, while 14 kilograms were seized as evidence of possession. In addition, law enforcers recovered five digital weighing scales, a glass pipe, assorted packaging materials, and buy-bust money, alongside communication devices believed to have been used in the suspects’ illicit operations.
“This operation underscores the importance of multi-agency collaboration and community involvement in achieving impactful results in the campaign against illegal drugs. Our combined efforts reflect our shared commitment to protecting the community and ensuring a safer future for all,” said PDEA RO XIII Regional Director Levi S. Ortiz.
Authorities reiterated their dedication to continuing aggressive anti-drug efforts while upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights. PDEA RO XIII also called on local government units, community organizations, and private stakeholders to strengthen their partnership in the relentless fight against illegal drugs.
The seized drugs and non-drug evidence are now under the custody of PDEA RO XIII for proper disposition. The suspects, apprehended during the operation, will face charges for violations of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
PDEA RO XIII encourages the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities. Through cooperation and shared responsibility, the agency is determined to build a drug-free community for the people of Caraga and beyond.
