PHILIPPINE National Police chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos yesterday ordered the investigation of a policeman in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan accused of firing shots at a Philippine Navy vehicle causing injuries to two sailors last Tuesday.
The accused was identified as Cpl. John Vincent Ugalde. Carlos said Ugalde will be facing criminal and administrative charges in connection with the shooting incident that took place on the national highway in Bgy. Bacungan, Puerto Princesa City.
An initial investigation showed that the policeman was driving a black Toyota Wigo when a speeding Navy multi-cab overtook him.
The driver of the Navy vehicle identified as seaman apprentice Christian Bustillo said that after getting past the Wigo, the driver honked his horn repeatedly until he heard a gunshot that hit the right rear wheel of the multi-cab.
As a result, two occupants of the multi-cab were injured when their vehicle tumbled down the road.
Police Regional Office 4-B director Brig. Gen. Sydney Hernia said Cpl. Ugale surrendered to the Puerto Princesa City Police Station 2 and turned over his PNP-issued Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
