
THE Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region and the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center – Obstetric and Gynecology Department in partnership with the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society – Northwestern Luzon Chapter (ITRMC-POGS-NL Chapter) celebrated the 21st National Buntis Day by providing pregnant mothers with free health services. including the promotion of perinatal health, delivery and safe motherhood postpartum.
One hundred thirty-four (134) pregnant women attended the one-day program held at the BUCAS Center in Tubao, La Unon on March 11, 2025.
Included among health education activities were lectures on health and wellness highlighting the consistent and frequent prenatal care visits among pregnant mothers, written plan for delivery in health facilities and the postpartum visit and care for the mother and newborn. Anemia screening, consultation and ultrasound were also conducted.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco emphasized that pregnancy is a delicate process. “Importante na matiyak ang kalusugan at kaligtasan ng mother at ng kanyang baby. Ito ay sakripisyo sa parte ng nanay kaya kailangan ng aktibong presensya at partisipasyon at suport ng asawa upang mapagaan ang pagbubuntis nila.”
“Pregnancy is a shared responsibility and I encourage husbands to accompany their wives and be ready to lend support para mapagaan ang kanilang pagbubuntis,” she stated.
After the lectures, participants were treated to a raffle draw where essential gifts were given. Vitamins and other supplements were also distributed including nutrition packs.
The theme for this year’s “National Buntis Day “ is entitled “Together for Mothers: Empowering Communities for Safer Pregnacies”.
The “Araw ng mga Buntis” is celebrated annually on the 10th day of March in view of the Proclamation No. 569, s. 2004.
