THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) CALABARZON announced the May 2024 inflation in CALABARZON via hybrid press conference on 10 June 2024. Regional Director Charito C. Armonia reported that the prices of commodities in the region increased by 3.5 percent. This increment is lower than the increase in April 2024, which stood at 3.6 percent.
Lower increment in prices for Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages commodity group compared to the previous month’s rate contributed to the deceleration in the overall inflation rate (IR). Its average price increase was recorded at 3.8 percent in May 2024, from 4.3 percent in April 2024. Also, contributing to the decrease in inflation were the lower increase of prices of Restaurants and Accommodation Services and Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services commodity groups which were recorded at 6.8 and 3.1 percent in May 2024, from 7.4 and 3.4 percent in April 2024, respectively.
Likewise, lower increase in prices of commodities were also recorded in all areas in the region, except for the province of Cavite which maintained the same inflation rate as in April 2024 at 2.7 percent. Batangas posted an IR of 3.5 percent, from 3.6 percent in April; Laguna at 2.7 percent, from 2.8 percent in April; Quezon at 4.5 percent, from 4.6 percent in April; Rizal at 5.0 percent, from 5.4 percent in April; and City of Lucena at 4.4 percent, from 4.5 percent in April. These figures indicate a generally lower increase in the prices of commodities in the region for May compared to April.
