THE House of Representatives (HRep) on Wednesday designated Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez as the legislative caretaker of the Third District of the Province of Palawan.
Prior to this, lawmakers adopted House Resolution (HR) 1368, expressing the profound condolences of the HRep to the family of the late Hon. Edward Solon Hagedorn, former representative of Palawan and Mayor of Puerto Princesa City.
Cognizant of the urgent need to find an affordable and reliable electricity source, the HRep also adopted HR 1282, which urges the Department of Energy (DOE) to initiate, negotiate and enter into intergovernmental agreements for the establishment and operation of nuclear energy power generating facilities.
Under the resolution, the country may entertain proposals and form partnerships with foreign countries and private entities, in order to learn more about current nuclear energy technologies.
The proposal, however, is subject to the completion of the country’s nuclear regulatory framework. The resolution is authored by Pangasinan Rep. Mark Cojuangco, PHILRECA Party-list Rep. Presley De Jesus and APEC Party-list Rep. Sergio Dagooc.
The House also adopted HR 1264, which endorses the creation of a collaborative partnership to improve Climate and Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance (CDRFI) in the country. CDRFI facilitates the establishment of measures to mitigate and address the consequences of catastrophes and enhance recovery efforts, by ensuring the availability of essential resources for resilience and recuperation. Bohol Rep. Edgar Chatto authored HR 1264.
Deputy Speaker Roberto Puno presided over Wednesday’s plenary session.
