Echague, Isabela – The Local Government Unit of Santiago City has seized and destroyed ‘counterfeit cigarettes’ on Friday, September 16, 2022.
According to police Santiago City police report, the fake cigarettes were discovered inside an abandoned house at the Camella Homes Subdivision.
An authentication report by a tobacco company representative has also confirmed that the said Fortune International Blue cigarettes found were ‘fake.’ All of the contraband cigarettes were demolished using a roller truck and an excavator at the Integrated Terminal Complex (ITC).
Mayor Sheen Tan who witnessed the destruction warned importers, distributors and manufacturers of counterfeit items inside Santiago City, citing that she will intensify efforts to enforce the law against related criminals.
“Binabalaan ko po ang mga importers, distributors and manufacturers ng peke o counterfeit items dito sa lungsod ng Santiago na mas paiigtingin po natin ang pagpapatupad ng batas,” Tan stated on the City Government’s Facebook Page.
“Wala po tayong sasantuhin. The health and safety of Santiaguenos as well as protecting legitimate businesses faithfully complying with laws and regulations are my utmost priority,” she added.
