
SILANG in Cavite has set the new Guinness World Record of longest candlelight lit relay surpassing India in a challenge held on Sunday night.
The town has recorded 621 candles, exceeding India’s record of 366 longest candlelight lit in relay.
Among those who participated in the event were employees of the local government and members of the Catholic Church.
The record of the town was obtained in the third attempt, which started at 7:30 p.m. and crossed the candle bearer no. 367 at 10:10 p.m. on Sunday.
Kheyglacy Pascual, a staff member of Silang Municipal Social Welfare and Development, held the candle that successfully beat the previous mark of 366 set by India before the fire died much later.
Guinness World Records official adjudicator Kazuyoshi Kirimura witnessed the event,
Mayor Kevin Anarna led the start of the candlelighting lit relay by lighting the candle at the image of Nuestra Señora De Candelaria right in front of the church door in Bgy. Poblacion 2 followed by Vice Mayor Ted Carranza.
At the end of the program, Silang town was declared a record breaker, who was awarded a certificate by the Guinness World Record.
The Guinness attempt of Silang was in celebration of the Feast Day of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria on February 1 to 3.
