DEPUTY Majority Leader and Tingog Partylist Rep. Jude A. Acidre on Thursday expressed the satisfaction of the House of Representatives after four months of sessions during a press conference held in the House of Representatives.
Rep. Acidre shared that there is a general sense of fulfillment shared among the Members of the Congress, citing the steady and visionary leadership of House Speaker Martin G. Romualdez.
The Deputy Majority Leader commended the House Speaker for his support to the members of the House that led to months of fruitful discussions and decision-making.
“I think, mas lumalalim lang, mas lumalakas lang ang suporta naming mga miyembro ng Kapulungan ng mga Kinatawan sa pamumuno ng ating butihing Speaker Martin G. Romualdez,” Rep. Acidre said.
He also emphasized the efforts of Speaker Romualdez that translated into results.
“Nakikita natin na hindi lang puro salita. Hindi lang puro pangako, kung hindi trabaho at resulta po ang binibigay ng ating Speaker. At dahil doon, mas nahihikayat ang ating mga kinatawan na mas maigi pang magtrabaho,” he added.
“It has been a very productive three or four months of session. We have accomplished so much–landmark legislations passed, investigations concluded, and we have also performed our oversight functions as Congress.”
Among the landmark legislations passed by the Congress is the Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No. 7 that seeks to amend the restrictions in the 1987 Philippine Constitution, allowing more foreign direct investments in the country. The House approved RBH 7 on the final reading on March 20.
The CREATE MORE Bill is also one of the landmark legislations passed, reducing corporate income tax from 25% to 20% to offer more economic opportunities.
“We have already fulfilled our mandate; we are looking at our friends in the Senate of what they will do,” Rep. Acidre said regarding the Bills being forwarded in the Senate.
Rep. Acidre pledged to use the upcoming break to focus on listening to their constituents to improve their services and emphasize the importance of the legislative body despite the five-week break.
“Sabi nga nila, ang leadership hindi lang daw dapat nagsasalita, nakikinig po. Ang susunod na mga linggo, bagama’t wala kami sa Kongreso at naka-break kami, ay magiging panahon ng pakikinig,” he said.
Rep. Acidre welcomes the break with satisfied feelings as he sees the House members “united” in passing important legislations.
The House will have a recess starting on March 23, 2024, and will resume on April 9, 2024.
