NAVOTAS Rep. Toby Tiangco is calling for the nationwide expansion of the Department of Social Work and Development’s (DSWD) “Walang Gutom” Kitchen program to fight hunger and uplift underserved communities.
“Napakaganda po ng programang ito ng DSWD, at sana ay mapag-aralan nilang maigi kung paano ito maisasagawa sa mas maraming mga lugar sa bansa,” Tiangco said.
Tiangco expressed full support for the initiative, emphasizing its alignment with President Marcos’ directive to combat hunger and poverty.
“We fully support the program as it is in line with the president’s call to fight hunger and poverty,” he added.
According to DSWD, more than 10,000 individuals have availed of the hot and nutritious meals from the soup kitchen since its launch on Dec. 16, 2024.
Tiangco highlighted the program’s potential to uplift impoverished communities across the country.
“Hindi lingid sa atin na marami pa rin sa ating mga kababayan ang nagugutom, lalo na sa mga probinsya. Expanding this program will greatly benefit those in poor communities,” he said.
He also pointed out its role in reducing food wastage.
“The program not only addresses hunger but also helps deter food wastage by turning surplus food into meals for those in need,” Tiangco added.
The “Walang Gutom” Kitchen is a DSWD initiative that repurposes surplus food from hotels, restaurants, and organizations into hot, nutritious meals for underserved individuals.
