A BARANGAY kagawad on Wednesday was arrested for illegal guns in Bulacan.

Arrested was barangay kagawad Edgardo Cruz,  50,  of  Bgy. Umpucan, San Ildefonso, Bulacan.

According to police, Cruz is an  alleged member of a crime group.

A report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr. by  Bulacan police director Lt. Col. Jay Dimaandal showed that Cruz was arrested based on a warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.

Operatives of the Regional Special Operations Group-Regional Intelligence Group, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 3,  RID-RSOG3, 301st Mobile Company  RMFB3,  Intelligence Section RMFB3, and  the San Ildefonso police seized from the village official a cal. .9mm pistol  loaded with four  live bullets,  five bullets  for cal. .9mm pistol, a  cal. .380 pistol  loaded with three  live bullets, a cal. .38 revolver loaded with three empty shells, and several ammunition for different pistols.

Police said the crime gang has been linked to robbery-holdup, carnapping and gun-for-hire activities in San Ildefonso and the nearby towns of Bulacan.

“We have been continuously beefing up our aggressive drive to recover and to seize loose firearms through continuous police operations and implementation of search warrants against illegal gun owners. May this serve as a stern warning to all, especially those who have not yet renewed their licenses or turned-over their undocumented firearms  for safekeeping, that stricter penalties will be imposed against violators,” Hidalgo said.
