OPERATIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on Tuesday arrested two members of the Bacoor City Police Station in Cavite and their civilian cohort over accusations of robbery-extortion.
Arrested were Police Senior Master Sergeant Joselito Bugay, Police Staff Sgt. Dave Gregor Bautista and John Louie de Leon, a civilian said to be acting as a “tong collector.”
A fourth suspect identified as Edralin Gawaran, currently the head of the Bacoor City Traffic Management Department, managed to elude arrest.
The three were nabbed in an entrapment operation at the Fil Oil and PTT Gasoline Stations on Molino Road corner Molino Boulevard in Bgy. Molino, Bacoor City around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The arrest was triggered by a complaint from a Bacoor City driver who went to the CIDG National Capital Region Field Unit office last Monday and accused the suspects of alleged robbery-extortion.
The man claimed that they have been giving the accused a P130,000 monthly “payola” since February.
The complainant said Bugay wanted to raise the monthly protection money to P170,000 since the number of passenger vans have been increasing.
On Tuesday, operatives launched the sting.
Criminal charges are being readied for filing in court against the arrested suspects.
Meanwhile Philippine National Police chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda said two policemen will also be facing administrative charges for grave misconduct.
