SIX members of a family were killed while one was seriously injured when a pick-up truck they were riding turned turtle in Calamba City, Laguna. Yesterday.
A report submitted to Police Regional Office 4A Acting Regional Director Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. by Laguna Police Provincial Director Col. Randy Glen Silvio, five of the fatalities were identified as Jhomel Hernandez Licas, 26, the driver of the Mitsubihi Estrada pick-up truck; and his passengers Medel Hernandez, 32; Ruel Hernandez; Jonel Hernandez, 29; and Angelo Hernandez, 24; all residents of Bgy. San Roque, Tagkawayan, Quezon.
The name of the sixth fatality is being verified.
The injured was Marvin Hernandez, 22.
According to Calamba City police chief Lt. Col. Milany Martirez, the victims were related to each other.
The tragic accident occurred on the national highway in the boundary of Bgy. Paciano and Bgy. San Cristobal in Calamba City at 3:40 a.m. yesterday.
Witnesses told police that the pick-up truck was traveling so fast when upon reaching a sharp curve of the road near a bridge in the area, it suddenly swerved to the opposite lane.
The pick-up truck then hit a concrete road barrier before turning turtle, pinning the victims inside.
Responding rescue teams from the Calamba police, Bureau of Fire Protection and the Laguna Spatial and Temporal Analysis of Crime rushed the victims to the nearest hospital, where four died while being treated at the Calamba Doctors Hospital while two were declared dead on arrival at the Global Medical Center in Cabuyao City.
