A TOTAL of 10,461 motor vehicles were apprehended for the entire month of June as the aggressive campaign of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) against unregistered vehicles continues to be implemented across the country.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said most of those apprehended were motorcycles with 6,824; followed by tricycles with 1,787; private vans with 954; private sedans with 451 and trucks with 230.
Of the 10461 motor vehicles apprehended, Assec Mendoza said a total of 9,212 of them were issued with traffic violation tickets while a total of 1,601 motor vehicles were impounded.
Some of those impounded were motor vehicles being used for public transportation without necessary permits from the government, or which the LTO describes as colorum vehicles.
Assec Mendoza earlier issued a memorandum to Regional Directors emphasizing that a court order is needed for the release of any motor vehicles apprehended and impounded in anti-colorum drive.
“Your LTO commits to the Filipino people that we will be aggressive in the campaign against colorum vehicles and unregistered motor vehicles because this is part of our mandate, which is to ensure that all road users are safe,” said Assec Mendoza
