CAMILLE Villar continued her efforts to reach out to the youth sector during her interaction with barangay leaders last Wednesday in Cebu City.
During her talk with the members of the Liga ng mga Barangay Romblon Chapter in Cebu City, Villar vowed to pursue legislation that would improve further the benefits of barangay workers.
The two-term lawmaker from Las Piñas reiterated anew the importance of the role of barangay leaders in making sure that government’s services are delivered to the people in the communities.
“I can feel the daily challenges you face everyday. You are my inspiration. This is why I strive to work harder to serve the public the best way I can,” said Villar, adding her passion to serve also stemmed from her desire to represent the millennial voice in the Senate.
Villar, 40, added she respects the wisdom of the veteran lawmakers but she also thinks she can bring in new ideas from the perspective of the younger generation.
The youth sector comprises about 70 percent of the country’s around 115M population, statistics from the World Health Organization showed.
Last Tuesday, Villar also met with barangay leaders in Iloilo and Palawan. She also mingled with representatives of the marginalized sector.
In Capiz, Villar reiterated that she will ensure that laws, particularly those that protects farmers from being victimized by traders and profiteers, are properly implemented.
“We have many very good laws but these should be implemented properly,” she said, citing for example, the Anti-Economic Sabotage Law.
If elected into the Senate this midterm
polls, Villar vowed to exercise the Senate’s oversight functions on the implementation of laws that cover agriculture, and those that addresses corruption, among others.
Backed by 15 years of combined experience in the public and private sectors, Villar expressed belief she can do more once elected into the Senate. “May nagawa na, marami pang ang magagawa,” she said.
