HOUSE Deputy Speaker Janette L. Garin underscored that the construction of inter-island bridges in the Visayas will serve as a major driver of economic growth by improving accessibility, trade, and connectivity across the region.
In an interview on Friday, Garin said that transporting products from one island to another will become more efficient once the inter-island bridges are completed.
“Kapag napatupad ang connectivity na ‘yan…’yung aming sharing of agricultural products, ‘yung sharing ng educational institutions, even the specialized healthcare,” the First District Representative said.
“This will actually improve the economy of Visayas,” she added.
Garin shared that, through the initiative of the Visayas Caucus, the government is already preparing for the construction of key infrastructure projects: the Iloilo–Guimaras Bridge, Guimaras–Negros Bridge, Negros–Cebu Bridge, and the Negros Occidental–Negros Oriental Bridge.
She also noted that these bridges are expected to encourage more investors to bring their businesses to the islands, further spurring economic growth.
Garin said that the undertaking is being pursued under the leadership of House Speaker Martin Romualdez, representative of the First District of Leyte.
