MUNTINLUPA CITY, Philippines — THE Lyceum of Alabang has taken a historic step in Philippine legal education with the formal launch of its College of Law, highlighted by the oath-taking of its pioneering officials, including its first Dean, Atty. Melvin Matibag — a seasoned public servant and legal professional whose life story reflects perseverance, hard work, and service.
The ceremony opened with the warm and encouraging remarks of Dr. Danilo Ayap, Chairman of the Lyceum of Alabang, who emphasized the institution’s vision to make quality legal education accessible to all, regardless of social standing. This was followed by the unveiling of the College of Law’s official logo and the presentation of a promotional video showcasing its mission, facilities and aspirations.
The distinguished faculty members were introduced alongside Vice Dean Atty. Hilario B. Dumaual Jr., who also took his oath before the crowd of aspiring lawyers. The highlight came with the oath-taking of Dean Matibag, who in his acceptance speech recalled his humble beginnings, sharing how he once dreamed of becoming a lawyer despite financial challenges.
“Where you start does not define where you will finish,” Dean Matibag said. “I stand here not because I had the privilege of wealth or connections, but because I had the courage to persevere, the discipline to work hard, and the faith to never give up. I want every student here to know if I can do it, you can too.”
He urged students to see the College of Law as not just an academic institution, but as a bridge for those who dare to dream, no matter their circumstances. “This will be a home for the determined, the hardworking, and the service-oriented. Here, we will mold not only lawyers but advocates for justice and champions of the people,” he added.
Notably, the Lyceum of Alabang College of Law is the only law school in Metro Manila approved by the Legal Education Board (LEB) this year, making its opening a significant addition to the country’s legal education landscape.
The program also introduced the College’s essential offices and services : Finance, Registrar, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs and Library ensuring comprehensive support for its first batch of law students. After a working break, Dean Matibag led an open forum, personally inviting each student to introduce themselves, building an early sense of unity and shared purpose.
The event closed with the giving of certificates, photo opportunities and a short faculty meeting in the law library, laying the groundwork for the College’s first academic year.
The launch of the Lyceum of Alabang College of Law is not just the opening of a new academic program, it is the opening of doors for every dreamer who believes that with perseverance, hard work and faith, the law is within their reach.
