LAGUNA Governor Sol Aragones has convened an emergency meeting to bolster the province’s earthquake preparedness and ensure public safety amid recent seismic activity in nearby areas.
“Sabi nga ng karamihan, ang baha ay napaghahandaan pero ang lindol ay hindi alam kailan tatama ito,” she remarked, stressing the urgency of proactive measures.
From October 14 to 31, 2025, the province will implement a temporary suspension of face-to-face classes in all schools, both public and private. Learning will continue through Alternative Delivery Modes (ADM) such as online or modular systems. The decision was made to prioritize the safety of students, especially those attending classes in buildings with upper floors.
“Naiintindihan ko po kayo, nararamdaman ko kayo,” Governor Aragones told concerned parents, acknowledging their fears for their children’s safety.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Department of Education (DepEd), the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) led by Head Aldwin Cejo, and Laguna Health Consultant Dr. Eric Tayag, along with OIC-Provincial Health Officer Dr. Odilon Inoncillo. Representatives from DepEd and Laguna University President Dr. Charlemagne Laviña also joined, reaffirming the province’s commitment to uninterrupted education.
“Hindi madidiskaril ang pag-aaral, hindi matitigil ang learning,” said Dr. Laviña, assuring that learning continuity will be maintained through ADM.
Governor Aragones also announced the issuance of an Executive Order directing all local government units (LGUs) to inspect public buildings, particularly schools, evacuation sites, and hospitals, to ensure their structural integrity.
The governor noted that several cities along the West Valley Fault—Calamba, Biñan, Santa Rosa, San Pedro, and Cabuyao—are being closely monitored. “Mas mabuti na pinaghahandaan ang worst scenario,” she emphasized, underscoring the province’s proactive stance.
While the provincial government studies funding for emergency “Go Bags” for households, Aragones said that information on essential contents will be disseminated to guide residents in their personal preparedness efforts.
“Dahil lilipas ang mga araw na walang pasok, ngunit maari naman ito balikan, pero ang buhay ng tao ay iisa lang,” she reminded.
Through these coordinated efforts, the province of Laguna aims to ensure that preparedness, not panic, defines its response to potential disasters.
