Volunteers at the Tingog Community Center in Tacloban City repack essential goods prepositioned by former Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez of Leyte and Tingog Party-list for immediate distribution to communities in Eastern Visayas that may be affected by Typhoon Uwan
FORMER Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez of Leyte, in coordination with the Tingog Party-list, has ordered the prepositioning of relief goods for his district, province, and other parts of Eastern Visayas as Typhoon Uwan looms, coinciding with the 12th anniversary of Super Typhoon Yolanda on Saturday.
Volunteers and staff from the Tingog Community Center in Tacloban City worked around the clock repacking food packs and essential commodities for immediate deployment to communities expected to be hardest hit by the approaching storm.
“The relief goods are prepositioned here at the Tingog Community Center,” Romualdez said.
According to Tingog Rep. Jude Acidre, among the prepositioned items are 400 sacks of 25-kilo rice, 80 boxes each of coffee, noodles, and canned goods, 50 boxes of Energen cereal drink, and 50 boxes of assorted biscuits—ready for swift distribution to affected families once Uwan makes landfall.
“Where these will be delivered will depend on which municipalities will be affected by the typhoon, in coordination with the Office of Civil Defense and our local government units,” Acidre said.
Romualdez said the effort underscores Tingog’s commitment to proactive disaster preparedness and swift humanitarian response.
“We have learned from the painful lessons of Yolanda,” Romualdez said. “That is why we are ensuring that relief goods are ready and strategically positioned ahead of time so we can respond immediately to our people’s needs.”
Romualdez and Tingog Party-list reiterated their call for the public to remain watchful and heed official weather updates as Uwan continues to intensify while moving closer to the Visayas region.
“I call on everyone to stay vigilant and united to ensure zero casualties,” he added. “Let us continue working closely with our local governments and agencies, follow official advisories, and always put safety first.”
Based on the latest advisory issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), several areas in Eastern Visayas were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals as of Saturday due to the approaching Typhoon Uwan.
Signal No. 2 was raised over Northern Samar and the northern portion of Eastern Samar, where strong winds and heavy rainfall are expected within the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Signal No. 1 remained hoisted over the rest of Samar and Eastern Samar, as well as Biliran, Leyte, and Southern Leyte, which may experience moderate to strong winds and intermittent rains as the typhoon moves closer to the region.
