ZAMBALES First District Representative and Deputy Speaker Jefferson “Jay” Khonghun has cautioned the public against the circulation of fake quote cards on social media falsely attributing statements to him.
In an official statement, Khonghun’s office clarified that no such remarks were ever made by the lawmaker regarding the subject mentioned in the misleading posts.
“It has come to our attention that certain social media posts are falsely attributing a statement to Deputy Speaker Jay Khonghun regarding the whereabouts of an individual. The Deputy Speaker has issued no such statement in any official or unofficial capacity,” the statement read.
The office further emphasized that Rep. Khonghun remains focused on ongoing relief efforts in areas affected by Super Typhoon Uwan (#UwanPH), particularly in Zambales and nearby provinces.
“We urge the public to verify information from credible sources and remain vigilant against such deceptive posts,” the statement added.
In a separate message, Khonghun urged Filipinos to set aside misinformation and instead work together during this time of recovery.
“Panahon po ngayon para magtulungan, hindi para gumawa ng kwento o magpalabas at magpakalat ng quote card na peke. Mag-ingat po tayo sa fake news. Patuloy tayong magbantay at maging maagap sa paparating na bagyo. Ingat po tayong lahat,” he said.
Amid these clarifications, the congressman personally joined relief operations with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), distributing ready-to-eat (RTE) meal boxes to evacuees at the DRRMO evacuation center in Old Cabalan Barangay Hall, Olongapo City.
Khonghun also led the delivery of additional RTE boxes to evacuees from Barangay Balaybay in Castillejos, together with Mayor Jeff Khonghun and the DSWD, to ensure the safety and sustenance of residents from landslide-prone areas.
The lawmaker expressed his appreciation to Barangay Captains Billy Capistrano and Jong Alba, as well as the rescue teams and health workers, for their tireless service and dedication to public safety amid the ongoing recovery operations.
“Maraming salamat sa ating mga barangay officials, rescue volunteers, at health frontliners na patuloy na naglilingkod sa ating mga kababayan sa kabila ng panganib. Ang inyong malasakit ang tunay na sandigan ng ating bayan,” Khonghun said.
