BUTUAN CITY — More than 2,000 Butuanons took part in the second leg of LegisHear, a nationwide House of Representatives initiative designed to bring Congress closer to communities and give ordinary Filipinos a direct voice in lawmaking.
Butuan City Rep. Jose “Joboy” S. Aquino II said the program allows residents to raise their concerns and share real-life experiences that lawmakers can consider before policies are enacted.
Aquino said LegisHear also brings government services closer to the public, with various national agencies participating in the event and providing assistance to residents.
He said the initiative aims to bridge the gap between policies crafted in Manila and the actual needs of communities, particularly those outside Metro Manila.
Butuan City was chosen to ho st the second LegisHear following its successful launch in Isabela, highlighting the House leadership’s push to make communities, especially in Mindanao, more involved in the legislative process.
