BATANGAS CITY — A new major liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) import and storage terminal in Batangas is expected to strengthen the country’s fuel supply and help ensure steady LPG availability for Filipino households and businesses.
Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon S. Garin recently inspected the newly built Isla Import Terminals, Inc. (IITI) facility in Barangay Libjo, Batangas City.
The terminal has a storage capacity of 25 kilotons of propane, butane and mixed LPG, allowing it to handle large shipments from Very Large Gas Carriers.
From the facility, LPG can be transported to different parts of the country through trucks and inter-island vessels, supporting fuel distribution in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The DOE said the new facility will add much-needed capacity to the country’s LPG import, storage and distribution network.
Officials said such investments will also give the Philippines greater flexibility in dealing with possible disruptions in the global energy market.
The DOE stressed that strengthening LPG infrastructure is part of the government’s efforts to improve national energy security and maintain a reliable fuel supply.
Safety, engineering and regulatory standards will also continue to be strictly enforced throughout the LPG supply chain, the department said.
