THE Association of Women Legislators Foundation, Inc. (AWLFI) on Monday opened its traditional PamasCONG Handog Garage Sale For A Cause Part 4 at the House of Representatives North Wing Lobby.
The AWLFI organized the garage sale to support the implementation of the Philippine Mental Health Law, and the country’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). AWLFI Chairperson and Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez said the proceeds from the fundraising initiative will fund the construction of a Women and Children Protection Unit Building, which she described as “a landmark project of the AWLFI this 19th Congress,” at the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) in Mandaluyong City.
She encouraged people to visit the garage sale and buy from the MSME exhibitors, “Each purchase helps strengthen the sustainability of our local entrepreneurs and MSMEs.” Rep. Romualdez also thanked her fellow legislators who shared some of their pre-loved items and to those who have helped brought in various novelty items and local goods from their districts. “Some of the remarkable products we have here today include vibrant fabrics from Ilocos, fresh carabao’s milk from Batangas, bayong bags made by women settlers in Malabon, handicrafts from Leyte and Samar, organic coffee from farmers in Misamis Occidental, and handcrafted pearls and accessories by Maranao artists,” she said.

AWLFI President and Bulacan Rep. Linabelle Ruth Villarica said the AWLFI garage sale offers items with more variety and much better quality. “Maipagmamalaki namin na mas marami at mas kalidad ang mapapamili ng inyong Christmas bonus dito sa flagship project ng AWLFI. Bukod pa dyan maipagpapala pa kayo sa beneficiaries. Hiniling sa atin na ang National Center for Mental Health na magkaroon ng Women and Children’s Protection Unit Building sa Mandaluyomg City. Kaya ang pagtangkilik ninyo sa ating programa ay may mahalagang patutunguhan bukod sa inyong personal na kasiyahan o pakinabang,” she said. She thanked Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez for supporting the AWLFI program, as well as the different sponsors who sent their donations, and current and former AWLFI members who are participating in the trade fair.
Event Chairperson and San Jose del Monte City Rep. Florida “Rida” Robes said the proceeds will create a profound impact on the disposition of women and children who need the protection unit facility to know that there are people who really care about their healing and wellbeing. House Members, as well as celebrity stars Quezon City Councilor Aiko Melendez, Coleen Garcia and husband Billy Crawford and their son Amari, were among those who graced the occasion.
