POLICE arrested a barangay chairman after a search in his house on Wednesday yielded several firearms and ammunition.
Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr. identified the arrested official as Joey Pantaleon, the village chief of Bgy. San Vicente, Jaen town.
Joint operatives of the Regional Special Operations Group 3, together with elements of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 3, the Jaen police, and the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office led by Lt. Col. Jay Dimaandal, served a search warrant against Pantaleon at his residence in Purok 2, Bgy. San Vicente, Jaen, Nueva Ecija.
The search resulted in the arrest of the village chief and the confiscation of one cal. .9mm pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, a cal. .380 gun, 15 live bullets for cal..9mm pistol, a magazine assembly for cal. .9mm pistol, 28 live ammunition for cal. .380 gun, two magazine assembly for cal. .380, a hallow point live ammunition for cal. .380, two holsters, and a black sling bag.
“We have been continuously beefing-up our aggressive drive to recover seize loose firearms through continuous police operations and implementation of search warrants against illegal gun owners,“ Hidalgo said.
“May this serve as a stern warning to all, especially those who have not yet renewed their licenses or turned-over their undocumented firearms, in their nearest police stations for safekeeping, that stricter penalties are imposed against violators,” he added.
