BASILAN Representative Mujiv Hataman has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Rix “Dodong” La Guardia, a dedicated public servant in Isabela City, Basilan. La Guardia, known for his commitment to peace and order, was fatally shot by unidentified assailants on February 21, 2025, outside his residence in Barangay Dona Ramona.
In a statement, Hataman described La Guardia as a compassionate young man with dreams and significant contributions to the communities of Isabela City and Basilan. He emphasized that La Guardia’s life was “mercilessly taken by the hands of violence.”
Hataman called on authorities to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime, stating that such acts of evil have no place in a society striving for peace and justice.
La Guardia played a pivotal role in the Peace, Order, and Public Security (POPS) Program in Isabela City. His efforts were instrumental in increasing the number of drug-free barangays from nine to 25, significantly contributing to the city’s safety and security. Additionally, during Hataman’s tenure as regional governor, La Guardia was a scholar of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) regional government.
Expressing deep condolences to La Guardia’s family and loved ones, Hataman vowed to fight for justice in his memory. He urged the community to end the culture of fear and silence, reaffirming the commitment to make the province safe for all.
Isabela City Mayor Djalia Turabin Hataman also condemned the murder and has directed the local police to expedite the investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The tragic loss of Rix La Guardia has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the urgent need to address violence and uphold the rule of law in the region.
