The Bureau of Customs (BOC), through its Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Intellectual Property Rights Division (CIIS-IPRD) and BOC-Port of Manila (POM), seized smuggled counterfeit goods with an estimated value of Php 100,000,000.00 in Valenzuela City .
Armed with a Letter of Authority (LOA) issued by BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, the implementing team composed of personnel from the CIIS-IPRD, BOC-POM, BOC Revenue Collection and Monitoring Group (RCMG) – Legal Service, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) inspected the warehouse located at No. 8 Rincon Road, Valenzuela City.
Prior sealing the subject warehouse, BOC examiners, in the presence of CIIS, NBI, and AFP operatives, conducted an inventory of goods which led to the discovery of used clothing (ukay-ukay) and IPR-infringing goods composed of items and footwears bearing the following trademarks, among others: Nike, Crocs, and Sandugo.
Further investigation is underway for other possible violations of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (RA 8293) and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (RA 10863).
As the agency intensifies its border protection efforts, the BOC assures the public that it will continue to suppress smuggling within the country.
